AC Checklist:

Get the right equipment and get it installed correctly – The best way to save on energy costs this summer is replacing your old cooling equipment with a new, energy efficient model. To reach their potential, these new models must be the correct size and installed properly. Improper installation may reduce system efficiency by up to 30% - possibly shortening the life of the equipment and costing you more on utility bills.

Bigger isn’t necessarily better – An AC system that’s too large and continuously cycling “on/off” won’t keep your home comfortable. Incorrect sizing may also put stress on system components and shorten the life of your equipment.

Change filters regularly – Check filters monthly, especially during the summer. Minimally, you should change filters every 3 months, but if a filter looks dirty after a month, change it.

Tune up equipment – Schedule an offseason tune-up BEFORE it gets too hot and BEFORE you have any problems! Our Sure Start service plan will ensure that your equipment is tuned up for the start of summer!

Install a programmable thermostat – Heating and cooling your home while working or sleeping is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to save up to $180 in energy costs AND reduce your home’s carbon footprint. Clear areas around systems or units – Remove leaves and other debris from around system components to improve air flow.

Seal ducts properly – Leaky ducts can cause more than 20% of air moving through the system to leak into spaces you do not want cooled. Our service technicians will test the leakage rate and seal duct seams and connections using duct sealant, a metalbacked tape, or aerosol sealant.

Optimize air flow – You could be paying higher utility bills if air flow in your cooling system is too high or too low. Our service technicians will optimize performance by testing air flow and making necessary adjustments.

Install ceiling fans – Fans cool your home by pulling cool air through the house and exhausting warm air through the attic.
